Francisco CP- 10
After the comical confusion was cleared up, SungJin made yet another innocent, but funny comment. The table noted that he seemed to be taking the break-up relatively well. When we asked how he feels about it, SungJin said "No problem, I have money." I jokingly told SungJin that that is all it takes. He laughed, understanding the humor. I noticed that SungJin did not finish his burrito and I asked him if he was full yet. SungJin told me that he is on a diet. I did not understand at first what he meant, but JiaMoon soon clarified for me. Throughout the night, Jia was extremely helpful. She acted as a translator when SungJin did not know how to say certain words in English. Once I realized that SungJin was telling me he was on a "diet," I laughed and told him that he should have mentioned this earlier before I ordered him one of the biggest dishes in the restaurant. SungJin said it was "no problem" and that the burrito was extremely delicious. For the remainder of our stay at El Jalisco, the six of us discussed our plans, including SungJin's and Jia's. We learned that they plan on going back to South Korea soon. They wish to stay in the United States a little longer in order to polish up their English. We then all said farewell to each other and I dropped JiaMoon and SungJin off at their homes. I was amazed of how far SungJin lives, which is at least a six mile bike ride down Appalache Parkway. I learned that he has to bike this distance everyday in the morning in order to get to class. I told SungJin that he is a very committed individual and that I have no doubt in my mind that he will progress immensely in his English if he practices frequently. I dropped SungJin off and we said our final farewells. I am extremely grateful that I met SungJin. I could not have asked for a better conversation partner. We both plan on keeping in touch with one another.
I thought it also was funny my convo partner insisted on paying! I know it could be tradition or respect, but it was very insistent! :)
