Erik CP2

Since I had visited my family this past weekend, I decided to share some pictures of my family with Kukit. Last week I only mentioned the basics about my family, but I figured the visuals would help build a better image of my life for Kukit. I asked him to tell me a story about his family. He didn’t really reply with an answer, but he told me more about his family, which was just as good. I found out tha his father worked for the UN Refugee program in Thailand, and helped refugees from bordering countries. However, his mother was a biologist studying viruses that transfer through mosquito bites.

Kukit had never played Phase 10 before, so I decided it would be an ice breaker to play some cards, since we’re still working on the ease of conversation. Starting out, he seemed a little confused; although, most Phase 10 beginners initially are. The first phase was “2 sets of 3,” which meant you needed 3 cards of one number (a “set”), but you need two of those sets before you complete the phase. In the first hand, Kukit quickly felt like he had what he needed. He then laid down two 3 cards. It took a few more minutes to explain that wasn’t what 2 sets of 3 meant, but eventually he understood. The rest of the game went smoothly, and we switched random topics as we played. And he taught me a new way to shuffle cards!
