Francisco TP-5

I met Areum yesterday on June 13th. I had just got back into town from Manchester, Tennesee and text Areum in the morning to see if she could meet me during tea time for a last minute tutoring session. Areum and I began our tutoring session with a list of vocabulary words that Areum did not understand while reading a passage for her reading class. One of the words that she asked me to explain was "emit." I told her this word can have multiple meanings but that it usually pertains to a beam giving of or shinning light. I could tell Areum was confused by this explanation so I immediatly gave her the example of " the sun emits sun rays." Areum seemed to understand this expression and we moved onto the word "broadcast." I told Aruem that the word is used to send out radio signals such as a radio station broadcasting live. I asked Aruem where she got these vocabulary words and she told me from an article that talked about the history of radio broadcasts. Areum still seemed to be confused by this word so I decided to have Areum use it in a sentence instead me this time. Areum took a little time to think of one then said " the radio station emits broadcasts." We both laughed and I told her that the sentence was a clever one considering she used a vocabulary word she just learned. I can tell that Areum is a fast learner when I ask her to use words in a sentence instead of me always providing examples for her. I was not sure if she truly grasps what I am teaching her until I asked her to actually try it for herself. After each word I explained, I asked her to write a sentence using the word. It was only then that I knew for sure if she was actually understanding these words.
