Ganem CP-4

I met with Mustafa again for Tea Time at the CIES. This was Tuesday May 24th. We greeted each other and then began our conversation. I asked him what he did for the weekend. He replied that he didn’t really do much except go to the Mosque on Friday. He went with his aunt and uncle. I asked him what they did for a living and he told me his aunt was a housewife and his uncle worked in the Mag lab as an electric engineer. I was interested in hearing more about his uncle’s job. I asked if he ever visited his uncle’s work and he said he has. He told me he enjoyed visiting the Mag lab. He saw a working Tesla coil and they let him participate in a demonstration. He got to hold a tube light and catch a bolt of electricity with it. It was then lit from the energy of the Tesla coil.

I was really interested by this. I asked him if this is what he wants to do for a living. He said he was interested in the subject area but his most desired job is to be a filmmaker. He told me he always wanted to direct movies ever since he was a little kid. He wants to pursue this dream after working in electrical engineering and making enough money. He told me he is interested in getting an engineering degree at FSU.

I asked him what kind of movies he likes. He told me that he enjoyed mystery and crime movies. A favorite film of his was “The Jacket.” He told me it was about a war veteran played by Adrian Brody who is sent to a mental institution for criminals. There he is subjected to crazy experiments. Mustafa ran into some difficulty trying to describe the movie to me. He didn’t know the word for mental institution so he described it as a “crazy people’s jail”. He also tried to describe the straightjacket because he didn’t know the name for it. He described it as a “jacket for tying.” So I told him the names of these things and he thanked me for helping him with vocabulary. I then had to go class and said bye to him.
