Kasper - CO 2

Last week, I observed Jennifer's speaking class. She began the class by returning student's homework and giving them a tentative week schedule. She reviewed some of the common "beautiful mistakes"(yes, she used the phrase) that she found in the homework. The lesson of the day was based on talk shows, first she asked students to think about famous or well known talk shows like Oprah, Jerry Springer, Maury, and Jay Leno. She described the overall premise of the talk shows and the kind of people that are asked to come on the shows. As a class they came up with a list of famous people, Obama, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, etc. The activity of the day was for the students to pair up and pretend one of them was a famous person and the other the shows host. They could choose to be any celebrity and the host would ask them questions about their lives. The pairs were given five minutes to come up with 3 to 5 questions and answers. Each student had to play host and celebrity. After the five minutes the students came up in front of the class to "host" their show. Most students picked Obama or Gates but two students decided to make themselves famous doctors. After each pair finished Jennifer gave them feedback on their pronunciation and grammar. The presentations went on until the end of the class. The students were great and looked like they enjoy the class. I was sitting with two students, Abdullah and Habib, and without me asking they told me "Jennifer is a great teacher, she understand the students very well!" Throughout the class she was engaging, moved around the class while the students were in pairs taking notes and she was always smiling. Her feedback was always gave the good and not so good things students did.
