Kasper - TP 3

On Tuesday I met with my second tutee, Andrea, at the public library. She is from Slovakia, has been in the US for 15 months, is married and works at the FSU bio department. We talked about what brought her to the US, what she thinks about Tallahassee, her favorite spots in town and what she does for fun. Her english is very good, she studied english in high school and college. She has a Phd in Molecular Biology (crazy smart!) and she moved to the US for a post-doc position at FSU, she wants to stay here for awhile and get more experience. The filled out a questionare at the library where she ranked how she felt about her english skills. She told me she doest have much trouble talking face to face but she has difficulty talking over the phone because she doesn't have the non-verbal cues to help her. She told me she really likes the show "Weeds" and she has watched all the seasons. For homework, I asked her to write an essay about the show so I can see how her writing skills are. We worked a little on pronunciation of the letter "w" and I asked her to practice at home because thats the only way she will learn how the letter sounds.

  1. Perhaps you guys can do some over the phone conversation practice and strategies. Remember that English is with a capital "E"
