Francisco TP-8
Aruem and I met for our last tutoring meeting today at 8:00 am at the Strozier library. Before we began our tutoring session, I thanked Aruem for her flexibility and willing to meet with me as many times as possible before this week ended. I already told Aruem that I plan on driving to Orlando at 1:00 pm this afternoon to catch a flight to Mexico at 7:00 pm. Aruem and I decided to go over more of the idioms that were on the "Idioms and Expressions" handout that she was given yesterday. I could tell that Aruem enjoyed going over these because she is able to practice her speaking skills and expand her vocabulary that deals with slang terms used on a daily basis. An expression we went over was to "egg on somebody." I explained to Aruem that this expression is normally used when someone is egging on someone into doing something bad. The example that was written under the expression read "Don't egg him on" so I decided to use that as the basis for an example that I explained. I gave the hypothetical explanation to Aruem that we were both in a party and my friend kept encouraging me to drink more and more, despite me having too much to drink already. I asked Areum what she would say to my friend. She responded with "Don't egg on Paco anymore." I told Aruem that she hit the nail on the head with the answer without thinking that she probably did not comprehend the expression I used. Of course I realized this and explained it to her. I apologized and she said "Do not worry, more vocabulary for me." For the remainder of our last tutoring session I explained to Aruem the idioms that are very commonly used today, such as: "on the house""there something fishy around here" (an idiom which took me a while to explain after some comical examples) and the words "corny" and "lame." I made sure that she used each idiom in a sentence, making sure that she understood the idioms. I said my final farewells to Areum and wished her the best of luck for the remaining time she will be spending at CIES. I am confident that Aruem will develop her speaking skills greatly, considering she is a bright student and can pick up things relatively easily.
