Kasper - CP 4
I met with my conversation partner at Starbucks and we had a great conversation about education. I mentioned to him that I was writing an paper on culture and education at a free school. The free school doesn't have grades, homework, classes and the students choose what they want to learn. If they dont want to go to class they can just play if they want to. This is a concept that is difficult for people to understand. He told me that students need teachers so they can learn and understand. People need to learn math and science to get a good job. How are kids going to learn about these things without going to class? I told him that kids are self motivated and will learn things they are interested in. He replied teachers can show you interesting things and then you learn what you like. We went back and forth but in the end I think we agreed to disagree.
