Jessica CP3

The other night Cloris invited me over to her apartment for dinner and a conversation meeting. We ended up eating with her sister Venus and her sister's boyfriend. Venus is a current CIES student and Ahmed is currently studying with TCC but used to take CIES courses. Before dinner Cloris and I chatted about class and homework. She said she was doing pretty well with both, but that she wanted to be able to practice more speaking, which I can definitely help her with! She also showed me their fish tank which houses four fish, I asked what their names were and she and her sister laughed. Apparently they get that question often and still haven't named the fish, haha. We also had a laugh about their gigantic TV remote, I said that it's pretty neat becuase they'd probably never lose it, when Venus chimed in that it in fact had gotten lost in the couch. The problem of the disappearing remote control is definitely a cross-cultural event, haha. During dinner Cloris was telling me about her friends back home and what they usually make for dinner in Panama. Her father owns a farm which has many smaller businesses attached to it one of which is a grocery store so they have a ton of fresh meat and produce all the time. We started talking about the agriculture systems here and there and the term 'gallina de patio' came up. Which I guess means 'free range' (would that be correct? haha) We were talking about hangover cures, of all things, apparently there's a delicious soup they make in Panama that's reffered to as the 'Levanta Muerte' or 'Wakes the Dead' that does just what it claims to and cures hangovers if eaten after a night of partying. We've got plans to meet up again next Monday as well, probably for dinner at my place and an attempt at making some Greek food with my mom's recipes.
