Today I had my first class observation with Prof. Jerry. He has a particular method of teaching. According to what I could observe, he likes to give a brief introduction about the lesson and then he assigns students a presentation on the grammar lesson. Today’s class started with the word of the day, followed by the grammar presentation, both presented by students. The word of the day is just a presentation by a student about a vocabulary word. Today’s word was “aggregate”. The student gave a brief definition about the word aggregate and then conjugated the word. After that, he wrote down the synonyms for that word and then gave brief definitions for each synonym. After the “word of the day” presentation was over, the next student presented his grammar lesson. The grammar lesson for the day was “reported speech”. Prof. Jerry did not make any corrections to the lecture, but he was taking notes the whole time. The teacher allowed the student to correct himself before saying anything. At the end of the presentation, the teacher congratulated the student for presenting and then he returned the homework. After returning the homework, the class was over and dismissed. I like how Jerry teaches because his classes are more student centered than teacher centered.
