My second class observation was on composition. I was in a low level group so they needed a lot of assistance. In order to help the students on their composition, the teacher provided the students with questions they had to answer and then expand in essay like form. Most students were struggling with vocabulary. They knew what they wanted to write about, but they could not find the words to express themselves. Vicky, the teacher, asked me if I could help her with some students. I helped non-spanish speaking students because they would have to talk to me in English. Vicky helped the students by giving them feedback on their essays and homework. The activity they were working on was part of their homework. Basically they were asked to correct their homework and then answer the questions given to them and write a new essay. Most students completed the activity, but the lower level students could not complete the essay on time. In my opinion, composition is the hardest subject for lower level students.
