My third class observation was amazing yet again! Once the class began the teacher addressed the exact focus of the course and exactly the time frame for which they were to be addressing throughout the day. The topic of the day was the TOEFL exam.
The class was at a pretty advanced level so the teacher used relatively high vocabulary. Throughout his presentation/lecture to the students he remained at a very level voice, which made me pay attention to every word. I found it interesting how the teacher stayed focused on his lesson map and committed to the time frame, not getting distracted in the least.
Before jumping into the heart of the lesson the teacher gave multiple strategy methods for taking the TOEFL. He gave tips about essay structure, clues on writing a strong conclusion, etc. Additionally, the teacher showed a sample essay and a dissection on how it was structured.
As the focus of the class was taking the TOEFL the class did a sample of what they will be expected to complete while taking the exam. The teacher first gave the students a pre-written prompt of which they were given three minutes to read through and take notes on. Then, the students were played an audio clip of someone reading a text on the same topic, which they were also supposed to take notes on. Following these steps the class was expected to write a compare and contrast essay. Once finished students handed in their work, which was to be given back by the following class with feedback.
Overall, I really gained a lot from the class by viewing how he stuck to the set regiment, and was at a very calm level in his approach.
