Kasper - TP 2
I met with my tutee, Hikaru, last week to work on an essay she was working on for an reduced tuition application. The essay had two questions that she needed to answer: How is the reduced tuition going to help her? and How is the reduced tuition help international relations between japan and the US? She had already spoken with Dr. Kennel about the essay and together they had an outline for the essay. We spent most of our time going over how we could "beef up" the outline she already had and write a good argument that will persuade the readers to give her the reduced tuition. We began by talking about what is a persuasive essay and what she wanted study at FSU. I started by asking her the main reason she wanted to go attend FSU and she responded "Soccer!". So we came up 3 reasons why soccer is important to her , how can playing soccer be used to improve relations with US and Japan and why sports are important for everyone to play. We also talked about how the reduced tuition would affect her studies in a positive manner. She kept saying how she would have more time to play soccer since she wouldn't have to get a job but I explained to her that she should write about how she would have more time to concentrate on her studies too. During this time we also worked on vocabulary she didn't know and pronunciation of the "l" and "r" sounds. I told her that I would try to speak at a normal speed so she could get accustomed to the way most people speak. I havent see the final product but she was very happy with the time we spent working on it.
