For our last meeting, June Won and I started out with some of the trouble areas he had the previous week. I tricked him into saying “world” (a word we had difficulties with in our last session), and he mispronounced it. I asked him to think about what he had just said, and he quickly made the adjustment. This made me aware that he definitely knows how to say most of the words; it is just the process of memorizing the pronunciation, and preparing himself before he speaks that catches him up.
Since I saw him tiring last week when we only focused on minimal pairs and tongue twisters, I decided to bring some dialogues into our session. As we read through, I noticed that besides June Won’s problem areas, his enunciation sounds like a professional announcer. Instead mouth placement, we focused more on the flow of the words, attempting to make the phrases sound as natural as possible.
