Jesus and a I met up on Sunday (I had the realization recently that there's a disconnect in my mind between the name Jesus in Spanish...it sounds like any other name Jose or Marcos, and in English where it sounds just like I'm referencing mass or something, funny, haha) So...Jesus and I met up on Sunday, for an English lesson. I'm thrilled about his motivation for learning English. He's here through November with a working visa and he is definitely taking advantage of the opportunity to learn a new language. We've started speaking mostly in English at work, and he even runs by my desk every now and again to ask about how to conjugate something. *And* He's started speaking English with our Project Manager too, she was quite impressed as was I!
So for this latest class we went over adjectives and created sentance to describe people. It ended up being another session broken into too parts, the first was vocabulary for articles of clothing. I made picture flash cards of shirts, shoes, ties, dresses...a bunch of different types of outfits and paired them with cut out cartoon faces. His roommate joined in on our lesson and the two of them took turns making sentances based on the combination of things the 'person' we created was wearing. It was a more fun and interactive way to cover vocabulary instead of translating from Spanish there was a nice visual element I think it helped them better memorize the words. They even helped to remind me of how to say a few things in Spanish.
